About the event
Join William Sutton, author of the Campbell Lawless Victorian Mysteries, for writing workshops. Some of the workshops will be held by other facilitators.
All workshops are individually bookable.
Friday 25 July – Unlock the Strange and Sublime (Experimental Writing) with novelist and journalist Dr Tom Sykes. Unlock the untamed realms of language, where rules are bent and reimagined. From surrealist freewriting to Oulipo constraints, this workshop is for linguistic rebels to unearth hidden voices, challenge storytelling conventions, and revel in the absurd.
Friday 29 August – Portsmouth Writers Hub Social. Come and meet others engaged in the writing scene in Portsmouth, discuss tips and tricks and share what does (and doesn’t) work for you, no matter where you are on your writing journey. This event is just £5!
Friday 12 September – Meeting Your Muse with Dr Alison Habens, Novelist, Poet and Head of Creative Writing at the University of Portsmouth. Tap into Ancient Greek wisdom and connect with the muses. Through guided exercises and mythic exploration, unlock the wellsprings of your creativity. Cultivate your own muse and channel your imagination into fresh storytelling or poetry.

Friday 10 October – Engaging Children with Gary Fyles, experienced educator, children’s author and publisher. Successful children’s authors are invited to schools – and invited back if they provide value when they are there. Planning activities around publications and confident oral performances of them are key to success in children’s literature, all covered in an interactive workshop by experienced educator and children’s author, Gary Fyles.
Friday 24 October – Flyweight: Fighting Names – Creative Writing with award-winning poet and performer Maggie Sawkins. What’s in a name? In this workshop we’ll be exploring the world of names — first names, middle names, nicknames, double-barrelled names, pet names, marriage names, mispronounced names — and using them as a springboard for our own writing. Suitable for new and more experienced writers.
Friday 14 November – Writing from Folklore and Nature with writer, researcher and artist Victoria Leslie. Victoria revisits and expands the themes and motifs from her wonderful NTR workshop in May. Tease out the mystical threads of old tales to explore the magic of writing your own folk tale.
