About the event
A joyous exploration of coming last, and then coming back for more; Tetra-Decathlon explores Lauren’s journey from couch to competition, as she learns 14 athletics events from scratch.
Having never even been for a jog around the park, Lauren signed up to compete in the Tetra-Decathlon World Championships; committing to learn 14 different athletic events and then compete on the World stage, all in just 600 days.
Tetra-Decathlon is a funny and inspiring show exploring the hurdles on the way to the starting line. Mixing humorous storytelling with athletic physicality, Lauren runs, jumps and throws herself into a world of serious amateurs and comedic coaches, where winning is not simply about crossing the line first. Tetra-Decathlon is a joyous exploration of coming last, and then coming back for more.
“It’s no spoiler to call it a winning show” – Scotland On Sunday
“an inspiring tale of pushing on, challenging yourself and the resilience of the human spirit.” – The Wee Review
“a lovely, affecting piece on what it means to take on a seemingly outlandish task” – Fest Magazine
“Hendry’s simply structured but impressively sweaty 60 minutes asks some piercing questions about failure and success, amateur and professionals, being a hero and being a fool and why we keep going against all the odds.” – Lyn Gardner, The Independent
Following the show, audience members are invited to stay for a post show talk with Scott Ramsay, Director of New Theatre Royal Portsmouth, and ask questions about the show and Lauren’s experiences of training and competing in the Tetra-Decathlon.
