About the event

Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar is believed to have premiered, with the title The Tragedy of Julius Caesar at the original Globe Theatre in Southwark, London in 1599 – a time of great political unease in England because the long-serving and childless Queen Elizabeth 1 was fading, prompting speculation, scheming, divisions and anxieties about who would take power, paralleling the situation in Rome in and around 44BC and in UK/US/ global politics today.

Icarus Theatre Collective – Since its creation, the company has toured 25 productions to more than 200 venues across the UK and abroad. The company produces classic, contemporary and new plays, backed by a wide range of educational and outreach programmes.
