About the event

Sasha Biloshisky, an international Creative Lab Associate at New Theatre Royal, is bringing parkour agility to Portsmouth this August in his new production, Hypozeuxis. The immersive dance theatre experience for families will premiere in the Kids’ Arena at Victorious Festival from 26th– 27th August.

Combining physical theatre, urban dance movement and the newly recognised sport parkour, Hypozeuxis is an immersive dance theatre experience for families performed at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth. Exploring mindfulness within a bustling cityscape, the performance features a bespoke, Escher-inspired industrial deck and steel structure, which forms the industrial themed set. Hypozeuxis also features an exciting and contemporary musical soundscape.

Working alongside Sasha on the development of Hypozeuxis, is parkour pioneer, Malik Diouf. A founding member of Art Du Deplacement and the parkour discipline, Malik has also worked as a stunt parkour performer in a number of Hollywood films including Taxi 2.

Hypozeuxis is showing on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August.
All of the entertainment scheduled in the Kids’ Arena at Victorious Festival is included in the festival ticket price.

Audiences will also have the opportunity to participate in free workshops throughout the weekend, where they will have the chance to learn parkour agility and dance movement. Participants need to be at least 1m tall and are required to sign up on the day for a place on the workshop. Workshop length approx 40 minutes

Hypozeuxis – a rhetorical term for an expression or sentence where every clause has its own independent subject and predicate.

Funded by Arts Council England, the performance has been created in partnership with Victorious Festival and New Theatre Royal, with support from Portsmouth-based, urban dance social enterprise Funk Format.

This year marks the fourth collaborative project between the spectacular musical festival and New Theatre Royal’s Creative Lab, whose artists have previously created productions such as Southsea-saurus and unPOPpable.

Artistic Director at New Theatre Royal, Laura Doye commented, “We are thrilled for international artists Sasha Biloshisky and Malik Diouf to collaborate with Victorious Festival on this site-specific performance. This is a significant creative development for the theatre supporting our long term goal to create trailblazing arts experiences that inspire and impact lives.”
