About the event
FOLLOW THE LIGHT is a new musical-in-development that tells a cross-cultural story of a fractured first & second generation British Chinese family. It follows the journey of three British Chinese friends as they explore who they are & who they wish to be, whose stories embrace West meets East mythology, comedy & musical styles. This culminates in realisations about how different generations can find ways to connect & bridge cultural clashes.
The composer Ruth Chan and writers Simon Wu & Jonathan Man had the chance to re-trace their family roots in China and Hong Kong earlier this year ahead of starting to write this musical.
This sharing is an exciting chance to learn about their journey and their creative process. We’d love for you to enjoy some of the recently written songs and excerpts of scenes performed by some of the UK leading musical theatre actors, and to hear your thoughts and suggestions during a post-presentation Q&A.

This R&D is being presented by Mosaic Arts, a collective of British Chinese theatre makers with over 20 years in the industry, in association with New Theatre Royal Portsmouth, Birmingham Hippodrome, SOAS University, the Southampton Chinese Association, the Birmingham Chinese Community Centre, and the London Chinese Community Centre. And supported by Arts Council England via National Lottery project grants.
