There’s not long left until Caitlin Anderson embarks on the adventure of a lifetime as Clara Stahlbaum in our upcoming Christmas musical The Nutcracker. With rehearsals underway, we caught up with our leading actress.
How are you finding the rehearsal process?
I’m really enjoying it. It’s great to be working with all the cast, especially the Young Cast, on bringing the magic of the script to life.
Tell us about your character?
Clara is the eldest child of the Stahlbaum family. She’s feisty, with a real sense of adventure. She knows her own mind, she’s independent. I’m enjoying Clara’s transition from young girl into a young woman. She’s a strong girl, and it’s brilliant to have such a strong female at the centre of the story.
What you most looking forward to about performing in The Nutcracker this December?
I’m looking forward to telling the full story of The Nutcracker, we don’t hear it so often. And showing all the beautiful costumes!
Sum up the production in three words.
Family. Friendship. Magic!
What do you associate with Christmas?
My family all go to the panto in my home town every year, on the day before my birthday. Then we go home and put up the tree. On Boxing Day we watch the latest Christmas film at the cinema. (Except this year, Caitlin will appearing in The Nutcracker on her birthday! Happy 21st!)
If you could ask Drosselmeyer to create anything for you, what would it be?
Something thing that would clean up after me, in the shape of a glitter ball!
Caitlin stars as Clara Stahlbaum in The Nutcracker A Christmas Musical Spectacular at New Theatre royal Portsmouth from 13 – 31 December 2019.
