Play Ball
Tue 11 March at 7.30pm A CO- PROMOTION BETWEEN ART ASIA AND THE NEW THEATRE ROYAL Place Prize winning choreographer Nina Rajarani’s SRISHTI presents boys behaving badly in their new show ‘Play Ball’, featuring 3 pieces centred on Lads’ Culture. Bend it… is about football. Let’s play ball! The use of complex footwork that Bharatanatyam and football share makes a testosterone charged peacock-like display of skill! Chemistry is the lovers’ reunion after a tiff. ‘Will she play ball?’ he thinks as he tries to woo her back. This male-female duet, dripping with passion and laced with vigorous but playful rhythmic passages creates a romantic and fiery dance that celebrates love and happiness in relationships. Quick! The winning piece of the prestigious Place Prize 2006 (the dance world’s equivalent to the Turner prize) depicts today’s cut-throat business world through the daily interactions and rivalries of 8 London businessmen. Are the business associates going to play ball and close the deal? Traditional Bharatanatyam dance and Karnatic music by famed composer Y Yadavan is blended within innovative, contemporary contexts. You are sure to be drawn in by this passionate and imaginatively daring dance spectacular reflecting the culture in which we live. Ticket Information
