Schools & Colleges FAQ

Q. Do staff go free?
Accompanying staff get free tickets (we do ask that all other tickets are paid for 2 weeks before the performance).

Q. How do I book?
Simply contact our friendly box office on 023 9264 9000 who will take a provisional reservation which will include the show details, approx. number of seats and a contact email address. You will be sent a form of the reservation details to be checked and returned.

We understand that teachers need to know numbers of attendees before they can confirm. If you reserve a booking at least 2 weeks in advance we will give you plenty of time to confirm and pay. If you book less than 2 weeks in advance we will try and give you as much time as we can.

We will send you an invoice with a pay by date and you can pay by card (we don’t charge for this), cheque or BACS.

Q. Can we order ice creams and drinks before our visit?

Q. Is there anywhere pupils can eat their packed lunches?
We do not have any allocated rooms that schools can use for lunch breaks but we can, in exceptional circumstances, make special arrangements for school parties.

Q. Can we find out the show’s running time?
Yes, our box office should have this information when you book, as long as it has been provided by the touring companies. If the information is available it will also be within your written booking confirmation.

Q. Where can we drop off and park?
Parking for minibuses and cars is available in the Guildhall Walk Car Park which is situated in Alec Rose Lane, opposite the theatre. There is further (pay and display) parking available in the immediate area and free parking in the University car parks in Middle Street and Waltham Street (weekdays after 6pm and all day weekends).

Coaches can drop off outside the theatre in Guildhall Walk before 6pm or in Exchange Road by the side of the theatre after 6pm.

There are official coach parking areas in Portsmouth, the nearest one to the New Theatre Royal is in Museum Road, PO1 2LJ. Parking fees at all Coach Parks are £1 per hour for up to 4 hours. Over 4 hours full days charges apply. Full days parking is £5.
