Local sweetheart becomes forces sweetheart at the New Theatre Royal
New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, are collaborating with Portsmouth Football Club to commemorate and celebrate PFC’s famous 1939 FA Cup win and remember the ensuing years of a city overwhelmed by war.
The community performance, The Missing Years, will take place on Monday 7 March at 7pm and all proceeds will go towards the New Theatre Royal’s Let’s Make It Great fundraising campaign to rebuild the theatre.
The Missing Years will tell the story of Portsmouth at war, how football was kept alive and how the FA cup was kept safe through short scenes written by local playwrights alongside footage and songs from the period.
Local performer and singer, Georgina-Rose Rust, 20, will take the helm as ‘Force’s sweetheart’ for the evening and perform a selection of war time songs including We’ll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover.
An avid supporter of the New Theatre Royal, Georgina is known locally for her great singing talent, she regularly performs her own cabarets and has performed with many local amateur companies including Fareham Musical Society, Portsmouth Players and Giselle Academy.
Having recently finished studying musical theatre at South Downs College, she currently works part-time on the theatre bar and has been involved in many events to raise money for the NTR including the Big Arts Give in December 2009.
She is thrilled to be involved in The Missing Years: “I have lived locally to the theatre for 20 years now and have been coming to the theatre since a young age. I now have the privilege of working in this beautiful building. This historical theatre offers so much to everyone and I love to do my bit in helping the building be restored. It is a glorious public theatre that must be looked after.”
